DJ Hardwell and Shailendra Singh unite at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday in Mumbai
16 December, 2015

Thousands of dance music fans gathered at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday to watch DJ Hardwell perform to raise funds for children's education in India. Titled the World's Biggest Guest List event, it was the dream of entertainment maverick Shailendra Singh who felt it was time for dance music to give back to society. While Hardwell and his Anna Agency agreed to perform for free, the deejay's foundation, United We Are, joined hands with Shailendra's Guest List Events to launch the first edition, which will now travel to other countries around the world. Even before the gig, they managed to raise enough funds for 18,200 kids, who could have the 10-year journey from childhood to livelihood via the NGO Magic Bus. Many people pledged their support via donations on Ketto. Hardwell says, "India has always held a special place in my heart, for all the love and energy the fans have given me. It is overwhelming because this is one of the biggest events I have ever played at." Shailendra adds, "I wanted to unite dance music for a cause. This is just the start." The gig, which also saw MC Haits, Fource, Shaan, Kill the Buzz and Vir Das' band Alien Chutney perform, was viewed on Hotstar live across 75 countries and was supported by Hero MotoCorp and Airtel Bharti Foundation. It was also the largest attended event on Facebook.
