As India’s favorite music festival, SUNBURN returns to Goa this year, we chat with Karan Singh, COO Percept Live for some exclusive insights.

What is the theme of Sunburn this year?

“Live Love Dance” has always been the underlying motto of Sunburn. The flagship Sunburn Festival is returning this December 2019 to Vagator Goa after a gap of 3 years and we are aiming to provide a memorable and amazing experience that can once again build Goa into a thriving music destination. We are working around the clock to curate and deliver the most intrinsic and enhanced fan experience spanning SFX, pyrotechnics and technology to further augment our experiential standards. Sunburn has always offered a fabulous mix of music, art, camping, adventure, online & offline engagements and we intend to scale that to the next level this year. We have actively researched what’s trending with our TG, tied up with the best partners and technicals globally, and have spared no money or effort in working towards presenting a unique, engaging, state-of-the-art international experience for our fans this December in Goa. A massive festival like Sunburn is built on creativity, foresight and passion, and we will be going in all guns blazing to make Sunburn Festival 2019 an even bigger festival than ever.

How do you see the live music industry developing in near future?

The Live Music Festival domain has grown in popularity and is today the one-stop music destination of the millennial. India is one of the world’s largest music markets and holds great potential in the Live music domain. With 1.3 billion music lovers, a large youth population and strong economic growth, India offers a promising destination for music festivals & events. Social Media and Live Streaming has further enabled audience awareness and growth in this domain.

I see the Live Music industry growing at a massive pace in the coming decade provided festival organizers engage actively with their audiences and continuously reinvent their brand and associated experiences basis what’s trending. Festival promoters must stay focused on all aspects of the experience spanning content programming, stage visuals, SFX, production, F&B, fan experience, safety, security & cleanliness. Only by delivering a holistic good experience will organizers be able to build the live music space.

India still faces many challenges in organizing live music festivals. There are multiple permissions required and most cities don’t have proper venues and infrastructure, so music festival organizers have to literally build the festival from scratch. However, in spite of the many on-ground challenges, over the coming decade I see tremendous potential in India in the Live Events domain, with 65% of the world’s youngest population and so many new Tier 2 and 3 markets to tap into – the opportunities for growth and expansion in the live music domain across India are endless.
