Sunburn 2012 fest on course: Shailendra Singh

With barely a week left, organizer Percept Live is confident of a controversy-free run up to its annual event Sunburn scheduled to take place from 27-31 December in Goa.Over 1,50,000 revelers are expected to flock at Candolim beach during the three-day fest which will see global DJ’s including headliner DJ Van Dyk, perform across five stages. Top officials at Percept said they do not expect any last minute spanner in the work from either by outside groups or authorities which could scuttle the event.” As per the last communication with the relevant authorities we have received a clearance for the festival. We are extremely thankful for the support that Goa has rendered through the years. The authorities have been helping us with guidelines and we are taking every step to abide by the law of the land,” Percept Limited Joint Managing Director Shailendra Singh told“Every large project comes with challenges and it’s our responsibility to face them and bring about solutions. We always stress on having an optimistic approach while we ensure every detail is taken care of. We are in the know of all the disclaimers and are taking every measure to enforce law & order with respect to logistics, health & safety, crisis management, safety & security, “Singh said.The festival has also rapidly gained strength in terms of financial feasibility.

The Sunburn brand is worth Rs 275 crores and set to touch Rs 500 crore by 2013 with 60 acts lined up globally. The company paid Rs 11.6 million towards entertainment tax for the Sunburn 2011 fest alone. Post liquor license fee hike, the event also witnessed a significant rise in the excise fees to Rs 8.4 lakhs from Rs 3,000 in 2009-2010. Percept paid a total of Rs 28, 12,500 towards VAT to the government last year. While Percept Live has launched a number of events like Windsong Fest for indie-alternative music, Sunburn remains the flagship event that is attracting more brands to itself. With the festival expanding to international territories like Colombo, and plans to host it in Jakarta and Singapore, the franchise is an attractive one for brands in multiple verticals- from media, consumer goods to lifestyle products and services. Sunburn Goa 2012 has Micromax as presenting sponsor with Philips DJ Party Machine. The festival’s associate sponsors list include other big brands like are Absolut, MTV, Vh1 and Gitanjali. Very picky about the brands Sunburn associates with and we have seen great growth in terms of sponsors and brands associated with Sunburn. However we do not associate growth with increase in number of brands – rather the quality of the relationships and the value added by each partner to the other,” Singh said.
