PDM manages multi-city activity for Canon, targeted at photojournalists
8 December, 2009
Canon India has been quite active on the on-ground marketing space, and is now targeting photo journalists through a new activity. The brand has called for submissions of images from photojournalists on a particular theme, and then award them. The activity was completed in Mumbai and Chennai, and will now be held in Delhi followed by three more cities in 2010. While the Mumbai leg of the activity was handled by another agency, other cities are being handled by PDM.
The photography contest in Chennai was announced with the theme 'City Life in Chennai' through direct mailers and communication sent to photojournalists across the city. Commenting on the activity, Sanjay Shukla, National Head-Activation, PDM, said, “Canon India has chosen different themes for each city, and the activity is aimed at promoting the range of cameras available from Canon India to the photojournalists, who form a sizeable share of the professional camera purchaser's segment.”
The submitted images were judged by KL Raja Poonsingh, a learned photographer with more than 20 years of experience, and an official mentor for Canon India, and Sharad Haksar, one of India’s leading photographers who has worked with some topmost brands of the country and won various awards at the IPA, commonly known as photography Oscars. The Chennai leg received 84 submissions for the contest.
Indian cricketer Anil Kumble; along with Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President, Canon India; and Shunichi Senda, Director ICP, Canon India; honoured the winners at a press conference held in Chennai for the launch of digital camera EOS 7D, on December 5. In Delhi, the press conference is scheduled on December 16. 'City of Timeless Delights' is the theme chosen for the Delhi leg.
